Events Manager – List Events by Event Date

I used Events_List to list the events for a Category and thought it was great, but It would be nice to have just the first event showing with the event range displayed.
It would also be nice to be able to display the full text for an event, as we now have to create the event to show up on the calendar and handle sign-up, then create a post to display the information on the web site.
