Should I use Akismet with Facebook comments?

    Hi

    I’m currently testing Facebook comments on my wordpress site. My understanding is that Akismet will not help block spam for facebook comments, is that right?

    That said, would it still be useful to keep Akismet active for other kinds of spam? like sitewide trackbacks or pingbacks? or is Akismet ONLY for COMMENT spam and COMMENT trackbacks/pingbacks?

    I’d appreciate any feedback you can give.

    You are correct that Facebook comments will not use Akismet. If you have disabled the built-in comment options and are not accepting pingbacks/trackbacks, you can safely remove Akismet.

    Can you please advise me how I need to adjust/change these settings? I will try out facebook comments for a while, so if you could recommend how I should change these settings with that in mind, that would be perfect.

    Correct. Uncheck the 2nd and 3rd checkboxes, and ensure that you’ve turned off comments and pingbacks on each individual post and page that has already been published.

    So if I turn OFF options 2 and 3, and use facebook comments on my site, will people STILL be able to comment? this may sound like a stupid question.

    option 2 pingbacks and trackbacks
    option 3 allow people to post comments on new articles (this is why I’m asking ?? I mean if turn OFF option 3, basically that means COMMENTING is OFF. BUT Facebook commenting will still work? These options ONLY deal with NATIVE WordPress comments?
