custom templates and reponsiveness

I need to create a few custom templates for my site and I see no documentation on the css used in this theme in order to create my own dynamic rows/columns, etc. Its obviously not bootstrap and I would really love to see some basic docs for accomplishing such things. Not everyone is going to use a builder for every single page on a site that use the Make/Make Plus theme.
