So I tried running my installation and I got a message that said:
Your PHP installation appears to be missing the MySQL extension which is required by WordPress.

What’s that mean and how do I fix that?
Please help! I am completely new to all this. Thanks!

  • It means that you don’t have MySQL on your server, which created databases so that WordPress can store posts/text.

You need to contact your host to have MySQL installed.

I am having this same error. I contacted my host and they are saying that WordPress is only for Linux. Is this true? I have a hard time believing that would be true. I have an easier time believing that my host doesn’t know what they are talking about.

Please help me learn the truth! Thanks!

MySQL can be installed to a Windows server, however, default is generally MS SQL which WordPress doesn’t currently support last I recall. You’ll need to have both PHP and MySQL installed for WordPress to function correctly.
