• Hi all

Is anyone else having Wordfence instantly locking them out when they freshly install the plugin on a multi site?

I deleted an earlier install and then after reinstalling and activating I get the following error message

“You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”

I’m a network admin. Be a shame to abandon this plugin.

  • I’m also experiencing this issue with 6.1.7. When I attempt to Network Activate the plugin, I immediately get “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”

I renamed the plugin folder to wordfenceDISABLED, which caused WordPress to disable it, and I was no longer getting the error.

    Hello both of you,
This should obviously not be happening. Let me just ask first, did you try deleting the Wordfence tables in the database before reinstalling?

Hi wfasa, thanks for responding. Yes did delete the tables on our fresh install. Seem to be around four threads currently reporting this.

I used the Wordfence Assistant plugin to delete the tables and files and reinstalled again, but continued to get the error when the plugin was Network Activated.

However, upon trying older versions of the plugin within the 6.0.x branch, I’m thinking the issue is caused by another issue altogether. My issue may be different from saganaki’s issue.

    Hello again,
we have a few reports of this now so we are investigating it. We suspect some code in our latest version conflicts with some plugin. Could you send me a list of all your plugins and themes? Email [email protected] and please include a reference to this thread in the email so I know who it’s coming from. Thanks in advance!

I just sent over screenshots of my plugins and themes.

    Thanks mishaua, got it.

I was able to install Wordfence 6.0.24 and successfully Network Activate it on WordPress 3.9.12 (I know, I know, it should be newer. Working on that with the client, but our hands were tied for a while.)

It seems this issue I was experiencing was introduced in Wordfence 6.0.25 through 6.1.7.

Has a solution been found? Is there a plugin conflict? Tried everything I know and advice from others but alas to no avail.

    Hello whitstable58,
I’m afraid we have not been able to reproduce this issue yet. I’m not sure if you are willing to try this but if you are it would be very helpful. Could you try disabling all other plugins but Wordfence and swap to a WordPress default team real quick and see if the issue still persists?

    whitstable58,
a quick addition here before you do anything that requires a lot of work. If you manually type in to your browser addressbar (replace yourdomain.com with the actual name of your domain)

    https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/network/

do you get the permissions error?

    Hi wfasa,
Got everything working and without having to delete a plugin. Disabled all plugins and then activated WF, activated all plugins one by one, waiting for a crash but none happened. Logged out/in a number of times and fingers x’d all is aok. Seems the order of plugin activation/updating maybe a problem – beyond my knowledge.
Ran a new WF scan and the only warning is below. Is this something to worry about
    [May 18 08:47:23] Warning: filesize(): stat failed for /var/sites/k/keepthecashgame.com/public_html/wp-content/wflogs/config.php in /var/sites/k/keepthecashgame.com/public_html/wp-content/plugins/not wordfence/lib/wordfenceScanner.php on line 217 0

    All the best

    Hello whitstable58,
Thanks for the update and thanks for putting all that work in. We have finally been able to replicate this bug with permissions now and our devs are working on a fix. As you say, the order of plugins (Wordfence and a few others, not all yet identified) plays in to it.

Regarding the “filesize(): stat failed” we should get that sorted out. It seems like your config file is missing or has incorrect permissions. Could you first log in to your site via FTP or SSH and see if this file exists? /wflogs/config.php

    Hello everyone,
a fix for this is included in the latest version. Please upgrade an let us know how it goes.

Thanks – keen to hear how it goes for others before I make the leap. Any successes?
