Importing with attachments is timing out and never completing

  • Hi there

    Now that WordPress 2.5 is able to download attachments during an import, I am migrating a blog from wordpress.com to a self-hosted site.

    The problem is that the import is timing out before everything is imported…it gets to line 103 or so, and the page stops refreshing.

    Is there a trick to making this extremely useful feature, actually useful?

    Could it be a congestion thing? A browser timeout limit? It gets to line 103 and then just stops each time.

    It appears to be working now that I totally smoked my database (dropped the entire WP database structure), re-initialized as if the blog was brand new, and did a fresh import. Hope this helps someone else.
