Front page post listing photo

I need to know if there is a way to have the front page list the first photo in a post instead of the featured photo. I need to have it change based on a shortcode in the post. I have a plugin that allows me to change access and so I can have it display a different photo based on the user’s permissions. Is there a way to change the photo that shows in the post listing either to just the first photo listed in the post, or change based on this shortcode?
