After updating my wp-reCaptcha I get fatal errors in my site

  • I recently update the plug in wp-reCAPTCHA to version 4.1 and after the update on every page that used the captcha function I get the following message:

    Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class ReCaptchaResponse in /home/76/05/2010576/web/wp-content/plugins/formidable/classes/recaptchalib.php on line 137

    According to the plug in it was compatible with WP 3.0 or higher, is there something more I need to do other than install the update??

    It sounds like the problem is actually with Formidable, perhaps it’s no longer compatible with wp-reCAPTCHA (which hasn’t been updated for over a year).

    You’ll need to access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/plugins/ and delete the directory for the reCAPTCHA plugin you installed.

    I assume that will get your site back in working order, but if not you’ll have to delete the directory for Formidable instead.

    Just had a thought, would there be a way to bring in new forms and deactivate the formidable ones? Would creating new ones using a new source correct the problems?

    I’m unsure, I’ve never used Formibable, but I assume that would be up to the receiving plugin.

    Well I just deactivated the plug in for recaptcha and checked the pages and the captcha is now working. Strange but I saw a post on Formidable’s site and they said sometimes two things try to use it causing an error.

    Ah, so maybe Formidable has reCAPTCHA built in now, and adding the other plugin on top kind of broke that.
