What is the best GPL forum?

  • Hi. I tried starting this thread in plugin and hacks, but it didn’t generate much response. I’m going to integrate a forum into my WordPress site and would like to hear WP users’ opinions.
    Punbb, Minibb, and Phpbb seem to be the leading options for free, customizable, robust forums. I’m hoping to get a lot of traffic to my site (aren’t we all), which will be hosting videos that I make (alone and with friends). The forum will handle all comments (WordPress comments will be disabled, if for no other reasons than that forums have better threading systems and linking up WordPress login IDs with a forum login is well beyond me — and just not necessary really) and will hopefully generate a good amount of other relevant discussions.
    Your thoughts?

  • those three pretty much cover the open source market share, from my experience. you can check sourceforge, if you want. i imagine that if you’re integrating, minibb and punbb will give you the greatest level of transparency.

    Thanks Lute. Transparency is important to me, although PHPbb looks to be quite customizable if not somewhat more complicated than altering the others.
    Though I’ve only heard from two WordPress denizens so far, neither have been enthusiastic about PHPbb. Interesting…
