    I’m hoping you can help.

To get around ad blockers, I usually create my own banners ads and host the images on site.

Using the plugin Quick Adsense these images display on posts and pages and allows them to be randomized. I also have some adsense ads which do not display when using an adblocker (but that’s ok), however the site hosted ads always display on the pages and posts, so even if people are using an addon ad blocker they are still viewing some ads.

However, when I create a similar graphic with link (on a non published page) and then c&p the text into a text widget in the Header Ad section, the Adblocker addons DO pick that one up and block it.

I have done the same in the sidebars putting in images and links and ad blockers don’t pick up on those –only the header ad widget area.)

Disable the addblocker and the ad is visible. (there is no adsense in the header ad widget.)

Why does an adblocker addon pick up a ‘picture’ ie (ad banner) in the header, but not pick up the same ‘picture’ (ad) in a page or post or images in sidebars?

I have tried some banners that non standard size in the header ad widget area but that hasn’t helped.

Is there a way around it?

    The site is https://andrewhallam.com

(I was not using the header ad before the latest hueman upgrade so I’m not sure if it’s related to the changes or not.)

    Thanks!

  • Hi nextstep. I don’t have an answer to your question but there is a support ticket regading the header ads widget. Not sure if the fix there will solve your issue but it sounds like it might be related.

Thanks bdbrown, yes there appears to be a clue quoted below. As suggested it might be useful if the theme developer removed any reference to ‘Ads” from the code, as mentioned below by dkvadratu.
I seem to recall it mentioned somewhere ad blockers look for code with words such as ads or advertisements and also ads of common size. In this case ad blockers are simply blocking the entire widget.(thanks also dkvadrau)

Would it be possible for developers to modify the code as suggested below??

I had issue with header ads widget. Problem was AdBlocker plugin in browser.

Issue fixed: in themes header.php file changed ONLY DIV element ID from header-ads to header-widget, because AdBlock reads ID’s and disables it.

Also changed #header-ads to #header-widget in style files(used Notepad++ to find):
    \assets\front\css\main-not-responsive.css
    \assets\front\css\main-not-responsive.min.css
    \assets\front\css\main.css
    \assets\front\css\main.min.css

Also I did the same with footer-ads.

Theme creators should avoid words like ‘AD’.

If you have a GitHub account you could add that as a requested enhancement. Or I can do it if you’d like.

Hi bdbrown, apologies, as I don’t have a github account. I and many others would appreciate if you would do it on our behalf.

Thank you for your tireless and generous help on this forum!

Ticket entered. You can track it here: https://github.com/presscustomizr/hueman/issues/235

This is fixed in v3.1.2 released today.
