Locked out of site, can't get to login screen

    Hello,

    I experienced an issue whereby I was entering what should have been the correct captcha entry, but it says it was not correct despite trying to refresh to get a new question, kept getting same question and nothing I entered was accepted.

    I tried logging in to my site via FTP and then renamed the plugin folder in an attempt to disable the plugin so I could login to my site again with just the username & password. However, when I go to the login page I just get the message “Error: your answer to the humancaptcha question is incorrect. Use your browser’s back button to try again”. If I click the Back button though it does not go to the login screen.

    What is the solution here? Can I disable the plugin so can login into my site again?

    Hi

    The only thing that springs to mind is that there may be a caching issue. Are you using a caching plugin?

    Hi, yes I was using a caching plugin. Can’t remember exactly which one, but in cpanel, can see a wp-cachecom folder. I renamed this folder to disable the plugin, but didn’t do anything. From cpanel, I tried restoring my site. This did allow me to get back to the login screen and brings up the captcha question again. In this case, the question is “What is the usual colour of the sky on a sunny day?”. However, if I type in “blue” it says your captcha answer is incorrect, and I don’t think this is a trick question! Refreshing browser doesn’t bring up new question.

    Any more ideas on how to resolve? I’ll re-install wordpress if I have to, but must be an easy fix for this. I would have thought disabling the captcha plugin by renaming it would have allowed me to login again.

    Update: I managed to disable plugins so could login to the site again.

    Still not sure why it wouldn’t accept my answer to the captcha question though. Won’t be activating plugin again.
