    Have you considered using follow up emails extension? It has product-based alerts so it would work if you ever had similar products with the same requirement in the future.

    I did, but I want the email sent to the customer, not to me. Basically, like an additional invoice email containing additional info only when they buy certain products

    Follow up emails is customer focussed.
