‘Timeline Express’ has worked flawlessly for me until trying to update to WordPress 4.5 – Nice Plugin BTW!

The site in question is here: https://www.all-statecredit.com/

The Theme used in its design is Divi by Elegant Themes. As you can see; the Website also uses SSL and is Hosted with Network Solutions.

However, no matter how I deliver the WordPress 4.5 update (Auto or Manually) the entire website (Excluding the homepage for some odd reason) breaks, and all other pages deliver me or directs me to the 404 page after the upgrade to WP 4.5

Only deactivating the ‘Timeline Express’ plugin does the website begin working normally with WP 4.5

    Other plugins installed are:
    Akismet
All In One Schema.org Rich Snippets
All In One SEO Pack Pro
    Child Theme Configurator
    Child Theme Configurator PRO
    Chrome Admin Menu Fix
    Duplicate Post
    Elegant Themes Updater
    Google Analytics Dashboard for WP
    Gravity Forms
    Gravity Forms No CAPTCHA reCAPTCHA
    Hello Dolly
    iThemes Security Pro
    iThemes Sync
    Map List Pro
    Postman SMTP
    Responsive Lightbox
    Snazzy Maps
    WP Job Manager

I don’t have the premium version so I will understand that I will not receive much support, but I thought you should know anyway.

For now, I’ve reverted back to WP 4.4.2 – I’m hopeful that your ‘Timeline Express’ plugin will at some point be updated, or perhaps it is something inherently wrong with WP 4.5 – In either case; I’ll wait a while before attempting to update.

    Best Regards

    Hey Ragtech,

You are not the first to report the issue – but I have not personally run into the issue. Our demo site, https://www.wp-timelineexpress.com , is running both WordPress 4.5 and the latest version of the plugin without any issues.

What theme is it that you currently have installed? One theme that seems to have issues is ‘Avada’ – which I need to look into what’s going on there.

It could also be a conflict with another plugin, or some other weird quirk going on that’s not immediately obvious.

    Thanks!

    Thanks for the quick response…

The Theme used in its design is ”Divi” by Elegant Themes

    Hey Ragtech,

Sorry – I didn’t mean Avada I did mean Divi.

You are the second person to report a conflict. I’ll have to see if I can get my hands on a copy of the theme.

    Thanks,
    Evan

    Thanks Evan,

Divi has become pretty popular (I myself don’t see what all the fuss is about, but it does have a huge following).

I’ll keep investigating as well; if I do find anything helpful; I’ll be sure to follow-up with you.

Will also keep a watchful eye on this thread as well just in case you find out what’s up with Divi and your ‘Timeline Express’ plugin.

ragtech – I’m using a custom theme. After updating to WordPress 4.5, it appears that there’s a conflict between Timeline Express (1.1.8.3) and Gravity Forms (1.9.18). I can have one or the other active but not both, so that may be where your problem is stemming from as well. It may not have anything to do with the Divi theme at all. Try deactivating Gravity Forms and then reactivating Timeline Express.

Evan – Both Timeline Express and Gravity Forms are very important to the site that I’m working on, so I’m curious to find out if you’re able to discover a fix based on this information.

What is it that is happening when both are installed? How are you sure that they are conflicting? What it is about the two that is not working together?

Have you tested with another theme?

I will need some additional details to help hunt this down, as I have not encountered any issues between the two.

    Thank you,
    Evan

One other bit of information I can provide is that changing the permalink structure to “Plain” fixes the issue for the site that I’m working on. However, if I use the “Post name” permalink structure that the site has always been on, then I end up with the same navigational issue that ragtech mentioned in his original post – all of the site’s pages return 404 errors except for the home page.

    (@eherman24)

Sounds to me like there is something larger going on. Possible some sort of redirects that you have setup outside of the plugin. The plugin creates custom post types, so the permalinks are handled in the same way as that pages and posts work.

Are you able to switch the permalinks and access a page or post?

Again – have you tested with another theme?

    Thank you,
    Evan

I have tried installing the Twenty Sixteen theme on the site, and the issue persists.

The only reason that I’m assuming there’s a conflict between those two particular plugins right now is simply because I can have one or the other active on the site and it will work properly. However, as soon as I have them both active, then all links except for the home page return as “Page Not Found”. That is unless I change the permalink structure as I mentioned above. They worked together just fine under 4.4.2 without any problems.

I’m also thinking that there’s a conflict between those two specific plugins due to the fact that they’re the only ones that I have in common with ragtech with the exception of Akismet and Responsive Lightbox. I’ll continue to dig deeper, though.

When I make it home tonight (from work) I’ll get the two installed on a fresh install with Twenty Sixteen. I’ll dig in and see what might be going on. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of any reason the two would be conflicting. They shouldn’t even be loading the same js/css files on the same pages.

I will report back here when I get some testing done.

Personally, I have Gravity Forms and Timeline Express Pro installed on my site (https://www.-evan-herman.com), and haven’t encountered the issues – but will test again on another install.

    Thanks!

    Hi Djnels,

I just installed the latest version of Timeline Express from the repo with the latest version of Gravity Forms, and I’m not running into the 404 issue. I have my permalinks set to ‘Post Name’, and things seem to be working ok.

What other plugins do you currently have installed? Is this a multi-site network or just a single site install?

    Thanks,
    Evan

It’s a single site install, and I’ve tried deactivating every plugin except for Gravity Forms and Timeline Express with the same results. I’m thoroughly confused. Rationally, it just doesn’t make any sense to me. I can’t see where one should be impacting the other.

    Plugin Author Evan Herman

    (@eherman24)

It doesn’t make sense to me either, as I have setup a test install using the same setup and cannot reproduce the issue – which leads me to believe that it’s either in your .htaccess file, something on your hosts end or some custom code that you have added somewhere causing the conflict.

Without being able to reproduce or see the issue first hand – I don’t even know where to begin fixing the issue.

    Thanks,
    Evan

I completely understand. Thank you for your time looking into it, though. I appreciate it. I will continue to try and find a solution. If I do find something, I will be sure to post it here.

After upgrading to WP 4.5 and 4.5.1 every page or post that has a Gravity form in it no longer displays the gravity form in it. It’s like the form’s short code is deleted or ignored. This also includes forms that are use in WooCommerce. Any suggestion on correcting this would be great for the next update try. I’ve had to revert to 4.4.2 to keep the site functioning. I am using Gravity Version 1.9.14, could it be a backward compatibility problem?
