Huge site, database server peak when creating sitemaps

Hi team,
we run a huge site for a customer (>800.000 articles). The overall performance is fine. When Yoast creates the sitemap, the database server crashes due to slow queries caused by the Yoast sitemap module.

Is this a familiar issue? Is there anything we can do to reduce the peaks?
