Email to backup recipients could not be sent

Click on Create Database backup from Dashboard gives message:
Backup Completed and emailed to backup recipients and saved locally.

But when I check log there is an error:
status=Error
details=saved locally but email to backup recipients could not be sent.

Any clue what could be the cause?
