• hello –

as i watch the paypal “sandbox” webpage account take forever to load, is there a recommended alternative to paypal particularly for WP sites?

    thank you.

  • Depending how you are using paypal on your WP site you may consider Stripe or WePay.

For instance, if it is a WooCommerce or other e-commerce plugin you are using the payment gateway in there should be plugin support for both of those. However, if it is just a button to accept donations you should be able to get a similar button from both those services as well.

I would also suggest that the Paypal sandbox webpage may be loading slowly because your connection is slower than normal or your computers history needs to be cleaned up.

There are lots of payment processors. Check the FAQs and documentation for the e-commerce plugin(s) you’ve chosen.

i was just curious if there is one in particular that seems to be the best for WP.

It has nothing to do with WP itself; it’s what hooks up best with the e-commerce solution you’ve chosen. WP does not have e-commerce built in.

They are all roughly the same in terms of their compatibility… as long as there is a plugin in the plugin database for WP it should work fairly seamlessly.

well then maybe i should rephrase the question: can anybody recommend a paypal alternative?

Stripe is nice and has reasonable fees.

Yes, personally I like Stripe too.

What is nice about it is once you hook it up to your bank it will auto withdraw money to your bank for you not like paypal where you have to login and move request they transfer it.

Authorize.net is widely accepted. It’s simple and basic, fees are brutal.

Bitcoin is the best and other cryptocurrencys, and fees are practically zero.

The problem is no one uses it. Except me, and i don’t spend them, I hoard them or reinvest them!

shilling my blog, only if you’re interested in cryptocurrency:

I’m looking to setup authorize.net on my wordpress and there are plenty of plugins for it. One guy even offered to set it up for me, how nice! $80 is worth it considering the amount of money that separate business makes.

The nice thing about authorize.net is that they have humans who do two things: (1) answer the phone and (2) solve problems. But you pay a LOT for that.

The basic question comes down to what sort of ecommerce site are you running, edwardsmark, and what ecommerce plugin(s) are you using?

hello again, and first off, THANK YOU for helping me!

we are running a pretty ordinary shopping cart. we have been using paypal for some time now, and i have been just copy/pasting the html stuff from the PP website right into our pages.

recently i started using angel-eye->PP that that seemed pretty nice too.

however, paypal is showing its age, and i cant help but think there is something better out there, hence my questions.

Stripe seems to be a bit of a favorite. i will have a look, but as always, any other recommendations are most appreciated.

UPDATE: ok this looks very cool (the php features)

    https://stripe.com/us/features

UPDATE2: the “curl” one looks even more cool – as does the node one.

for a nice shopping cart that works very well with Paypal — and doesn’t require the whole ecommerce infrastructure, I’ve used “WP Simple Paypal Shopping Cart”. You can see it in action here: https://holocaustspeaker.com/order/
