As recently as a week ago our backupwordpress was working just fine. Then about 4 days ago it stopped and started displaying the error

"Your site cannot be backed up because your server doesn't support mysqldump or PDO::mysql. Please contact your host and ask them to enable them."

Only myself and my boss have access to the admin settings, and I rarely if ever mess with the WP site other than to hit update on the plugins. To my knowledge my boss hadn’t been in it for weeks either. I’ve looked on google but can’t seem to find that particular error message.

Any direction on where I could look for answers, or any information anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

This message means that both the primary means of backing up the database are actually failing. Unfortunately one of those two options needs to be available in order to back up the database.

You need to talk with your host to see why one of those options isn’t available and let them know that you are getting an error that indicates that both options are not available. Sometimes there’s a glitch on the server that results in something needing to be reinstalled. And sometimes hosts change some of the functions available on the server ??

I’m sorry you’re having trouble with this and hope your host can help you resolve getting at least one of those options working for you.

thanks for the reply, but in our case there is no “host”. Only myself and one other has access to the WP system and one day it just stopped working.

Is it as simple as just reinstalling mysqldump or PDO::mysql? Not that I have any experience with either one.

    Hey there –

Installing one or both of those would be the best way to handle this, as most other backup options will utilize these as well. Look up the type of server environment you’re running in and the file package you want to install (mysqldump or PDO::mysql) and you should be able to find some installation instructions via a good Google search.

    Best of luck to you!
