• We want to redesign our church website from Innovative Theme to Avada without having any downtime.

Church website is in a folder called wordpress.

    https://www.firstbaptistdover.org/wordpress

I created a new folder called 2016website and uploaded the wordpress core files to the new /2016website directory

    https://www.firstbaptistdover.org/2016website

I then created a new MySQL database and imported the old database into the new one.

When I view the website in a browser, I get the White Screen of Death.
But strangely I was able to go to the login page and login to the backend of the new site.

I deleted the plugins from the server (didn’t help)
I deleted the Inovative Theme so that it would revert back to the twentysixteen theme (works fine).

I tried twentyfourteen and twentythirtheen and they work fine too. I tried uploading the Avada Theme but when I activate it, I get the White Screen of Death again.

I can’t figure out why I get the WSOD with any theme other than the default WordPress Themes.

Let’s throw one more theme in the mix real quick, does it work with the Sorbet theme?

This should help to isolate if the problem is with Avada, or if the problem is indeed with any theme except the Twenties.

Thanks James, I installed Sorbet and it is working fine. https://firstbaptistdover.org/2016website/

Strangely if I activate the current theme (Innovative) or Avada (New theme we want to switch to) I get the WSOD.

So that narrows it down to those two themes but how do you figure out what is preventing it from loading? Avada is the leading theme on ThemeForest and I’ve used it on many websites before with no problems.

Could it be with their webhost?

I’m not 100% sure yet. A blank screen means PHP is crashing, and that’s usually due to a function conflict introduced by a plugin or theme.

At this point, it could be a plugin, or it could be just those two themes, or perhaps less likely it could be something very wrong with the server’s PHP configuration.

Try deactivating all plugins. If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that made no difference, then I’d turn my focus to Avada next, and since that is a commercial theme, we ask that you please go to their official support channel, so you can get support from the people who know it best.

    https://theme-fusion.com/support/

Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why it is not working properly. Other community members who may have faced your issue might be able to help you but your best bet is your product’s developer. Keep in mind we encourage you to use the official support venues, as it allows the developers to be aware of issues with their code and gives back to the community in a more robust way.

Thanks again for your help James.

I had already deleted the Plugins from the server but that did not fix the problem.

I just noticed there was an update to the Innovative Theme so I updated it and now that theme works https://firstbaptistdover.org/2016website/ so the problem is with Avada. I had issued a support ticket with them the same time I posted here. I’ll wait to hear from them.

Have a blessed day and thanks again.
