Choose new there for shop and installed it but site didn't change…

I am new to wordpress. Want to set up an ecommerce site using woo commerce. I just set up my host site through site ground yesterday. then I installed wordpress. when I did that it made me chose a theme. So I did. I figured I could change it when I got the woo commerce pluggin. So I installed the woo commerce pluggin and changed my theme to storefront. Now when I go to my site the theme has not changed. From the admin page if I click “visit site” the old theme is there (and looks really messed up). and if I click “visit shop” the new theme is there. Shouldn’t it be the same theme? If I go to Appearance > themes. Then it says storefront is active. If I click customize theme the page never loads. I filled out a support ticket with site ground and this is what was said.

I am activating my Store Front theme but it appears broken and when I click on customize it gets stuck on loading.

I have checked the permissions, repaired and optimized the database, tried using different .htaccess rules, disabled plugins and also increased dynamic-timeout value to 300 seconds, but nothing affected the theme customizer.

I was not able to find any records in the server logs and error logs, and the issue seems only related to the theme. At this point, I would recommend that you consider re-installing it anew and see if it will work properly afterwards.

So then I reinstalled store front and nothing changed. What gives?
