media settings won't change

I’m trying to change the default settings for the image sizes for Medium and Large images but when I click save, although it says they saved, the numbers default back to the original settings. I tried to deactivate all plugins to see if there was a conflict but that didn’t seem to help at all. Not sure how to make this work…
