How to move a widget location

I have some white space on the front page of my website https://www.pointshavingfordummies.com that I am trying to fill. I have added a widget into the functions.php file, but I can’t find how to make it appear on the homepage. Can’t I just add it into the style.css? I’ve tried a few things but to no avail.
