Buddy Press- Wp Login error.

Hello,

Can anyone help me. I installed buddy press, and when someone activates their user account and tries to log into their account, they are taken to the WP-Log In page and given error: ERROR: Invalid username

Do the user also have to register a WP account also? Is there a way to bypass this so my users dont have to register On my buddy press and also WP?
