Custom taxonomy hierarchy broken in edit post UI after save post

  • hierarchical Custom Taxonomy created as standard way for custom post and it’s working fine but the problem is:

    Before save post, taxonomy UI is good and taxonomy terms showing hierarchical nested way as it is.

    But after saving post taxonomy terms hierarchy broken and selected terms showing top. sometimes it good cos you can see selected terms first, but for my case it’s not helping cos when i am going to edit post, it’s difficult to know which terms was selected and what was the parent-child relation.

    So is there any way that, taxonomy terms will show how it was selected and selected taxonomy terms will not show on top and will not break hierarchy after save the post?

  • You can put this in your theme’s functions.php file. I’m not sure what else this affects though. You may have to put in some if-conditionals if you only want it in certain places.

    function my_terms_checklist_args( $args, $post_id ) {
    $args[‘checked_ontop’] = false;
    return $args;
    }
    add_filter( ‘wp_terms_checklist_args’, ‘my_terms_checklist_args’, 10, 2 );

    Wow, thanks for this solution! I got pretty frustrated by these ‘checked terms’ jumping to the top of the hierarchy in custom taxonomies. Didn’t make any sense.

    I’ve wrapped an ‘is_admin()’ check around it. All seems fine!
