• hi all,

this is my first time installing wordpress.

i did everything with the guide on the web, downlaoded the latest wordpress files and uploaded all the unzipped files into the public file with FTP

i also changed the config.php file and added my database details as i received from the host.

    its a new database

i keep getting the 404 not found error.

i cant figure out what i could possibly be doing wrong or what i could change to make it work

    can someone help me please?

    thanks

I think we need more details to help you.

How did you configure you apache?

If you are using a panel to upload you wordpress, try to upload a single file first and after access from your web browser.

The first thing to do is double (or triple) check the folder that you’ve got the files in. Sometimes web hosts have folder names that look right, but aren’t.

If you’re sure that you’ve got the files in the right spot, contact your hosting company and ask them what’s wrong. They’ll be able to tell you if you’ve got the right location or not, or if it’s a bigger issue with the server that they’ll need to fix.

I think that you should check the SQL database
double check that database because with my experimence, the website cannot load without right SQL
If it still error 404, check the folder on your host. Maybe you put it in wrong name or wrong directory?

Where have you installed the WordPress:
    – In root?
    – OR in a sub-directory in public_html?

As @catacaustic suggested above, make sure you got the files in right location.

Also, verify that your site is configured to serve, for example, index.php files. Your host will have information on how to make those changes if required.
