    Hello!

I am hoping someone might be able to help me, please. I am having trouble with the photos on my website, bodegastories.com. I would like all the posts to have large photos on the homepage, without the black band at the bottom, however when I tried that with one post (by leaving the image large), then that same feature image looked very blurry when I looked at the website’s homepage on my iPhone. Once I clicked on the post while still on my phone and it took me to the actual post, the image looked fine.

Right now, when I look at the website on my phone, all the images look sharp on the home page (with the black bands at the bottom), but become blurry when I click on it and it takes me to the actual post. Where is the balance?

I would like the images to be sharp on the home page, and when I reach the individual posts as well, but am not sure how to accomplish that. Is there anyone here who has struggled with the same issue? I appreciate any and all insight, thank you so much!

  • The recommended featured-image size for Cubic is 2000px wide by 1500px high minimum, which you can see in the Quick Specs box at the bottom of the theme info page here:
    https://wordpress.com/themes/cubic/

Try uploading a couple of larger images closer to that aspect ratio first and let me know if that helps.

Thank you Kathryn! I did that and made the feature image of a draft post 1300 x 975, but I am still seeing it as blurry when I look at it through my phone. I am trying to figure out how to make it so that the image looks sharp when I look at it through the mobile site. I tried making the feature image smaller so that it wouldn’t appear blurry on the mobile site, but then I got the black bar above and below the image, which is what I don’t want.

Is there a magic ratio that I should aim for? Thanks in advance for your help!

Can you provide a link to a couple of posts that don’t look right on your phone?

Can you also tell me what type of iPhone, what iOS, and what browser you’re using?

Is there a magic ratio that I should aim for?

4:3 images tend to work well (rather than widescreen 16:9 images) – the ratio works well for both the grid and the single posts.

    Hello Kathryn:

Thanks for your help. I realized what happened. I hadn’t updated my phone yet and, when I did, everything looked better when I used the 2000 x 1500 images. Thank you for all your help!

    Best,

    Amaris

That’s great – glad to hear things look as they should now! I’ll mark this thread as resolved.
