Restrict User Access will support all User Roles that are created using the built-in functionality in WordPress.

I have so far tested it with roles created by BuddyPress and bbPress.

    Hi Joachim,
The role that I’m using to test functionality is has a ‘Display Name’= ‘Provisional Member’ but the ‘Role Name’=’wa_level_328697’ so when adding ‘Restrict’ shortcode I’ve tried:
    [restrict role=”Provisional Member”]
    [restrict role=”provisional member”]
    [restrict role=”provisional-member”]
    [restrict role=”provisional_member”]
    [restrict role=”wa_level_328697″]
but none of these is working when I’m viewing the page when logged in as a ‘Provisional Member’.
Can you suggest what the correct restrict shortcode should be in this instance?

The test page is at the following address and login:

    Hi Joachim,

I think I’ve worked out what the problem was, a plugin related to the custom user roles wasn’t setup correctly.

[restrict role=”wa_level_328697″] is now functioning for me.

    Thanks for your assistance.

Great news you got it solved.

If you have trouble in finding the actual names of your created roles, you can go to User Access > Access Levels > Add New and synchronize the level with any role.

After that you can use the shortcode like this:
    [restrict level="level-name"]
