• Hello everyone,

Take a look at my site and let me know what you think, https://wildensblog.com

I’m interested in your opinions on its appearance and operation (does it load too slow?)

It’s a political commentary blog. If you’re running the same type of blog I would appreciate it if you would link to my site if you like the content, I would be happy to return the favor.

  • Yes, your blog loads to slow, very slow, very, very slow.
The overall appearance to me is boring, but mostly it took several minutes to load with Comcast cable, minutes I wouldn’t normally give it.

Marjiec is right about load times…It seems what ever host you have is giving you limited bandwidth, may i suggest hosting companies such as Host Gator or GoDaddy. They give you enough bandwidth for fast loading. It you were to view other peoples sites you would notice that enough with more images than you they still load faster.

As for the overall appearance it is fine, mostly since it’s a political blogs. Blogs such as that do no require flashy colours and great looks. They just have to be simple and easy to use with a little colour here and their. May i suggest though centering your picture

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I know it the site isn’t very exciting, it’s all about the content. I just want it to be easy to use and professional in appearance.

I’ve setup an account with HostGator, hopefully they will speed things up, thanks garfinkel for the recommendation, the transfer should be complete by 3/19/08. As for centering my picture, I agree it would look better centered but the widget can’t seem to do this.

    Thanks again.

Glad to have helped. If you want i will take a look at the widget and get it centred for you…

Also in hostgator to do a one click install just type in https://yourdomain.com/cpanel and select fantastico. Their you just select wordpress and hit install.

Actually, I’m having HostGator move my site to their servers for me saving me all the trouble of reconfiguring WordPress and reinstalling all my plugins. Hopefully that will happen today or tomorrow. The site will then be found at https://progressiveworldreview.com.

How would you be able to center that pic? If you can help I certainly would appreciate it.

I can go into the coding of the widget and tell it in their that the image should be centered

It looks fairly professional to me — there’s nothing wrong with a straightforward design on a blog that is primarily about content.

However, I find your text (in Firefox anyway) very small and tight for reading large blocks of text online. Always better to err on the side of having the typeface too large than too small, esp. when you have a lot of content to read.

Thanks for checking my site SA, I’m not sure yet if I’ll change the type size or not but I sure appreciate your input.

So then garfinkel, you would need me to email you the php files for the widget, I guess? The widget allows you to do things like centering, it just doesn’t persist the settings. Of course, if all you were thinking of doing was to tweek the widget to center the pic, that would be excellent.

    Yea that’s pretty much it.

    Email me at [email protected]

I don’t know if the site has changed yet, and if you would like to hear my opinion. Here it is anyway:

    1. Your picture is distracting me from reading the actual content on your site.
    2. The title’s of your posts are blended in your theme to much, it is not clear where your site is about
    3. Why put only 1 post on your homepage, so visitors can read more, without having to click to a new page

And I have some more points, but I’ll wait with them, until you say that you want to hear them.

Yes, Geld Lenen, I’m interested in all of your opinions.

hmm.. about the only thing I dont care for is the calendar layout, it’s too “wide”, maybe?

Other than that, your picture didnt distract me Maybe if you animated it, or coded in some js so that the eyes followed my mouse?

The titles didnt “blend” in for me.

And I like that there is one post on the front page. You seem like a wordy (used in good way) writer, so one post fills the front page rather nicely, without adding a whole bunch of scroll.

I also have just started a political themed blog, so good luck with yours. Here is the feedback i have on your site, since you asked for it
    1) it seems way to wide and there is so much going on, that I sometimes found it distracting from your actual post
    2) I am not sure how I feel about your picture being there. I am going to your site to see your posts, not your face.
    3) I would consider finding one of the custom themes that are out there….and then customizing it more. We designed a logo and then animated the top banner to give it ia little uniqueness. You can do that also.

I wish you the best of luck with your forum and I will check back often

    TVDinner at https://www.politicaldisgust.com

I agree with whoo that the calendar is too wide, make it only as wide as that center column. Right now it seems to be vying for attention and the left content should be center stage.

It’s a clean design that doesn’t distract from the content. I like that. And I have no problem whatsoever with having your smiling visage on your page. I think more people should do that; it creates a sense of trust, of familiarity. I like to know the people behind the web site. ??

Thank you everyone for your inciteful comments! Funny about that calendar, I thought the standard WordPress calendar was too narrow so I went with this one, but I will definitely reconsider that choice now.

    Thanks again!
