• Using: Dreamweaver CS6, plus all the newest versions of MAMP and WordPress

So this is really weird. I am working on a wordpress site via my local server (mamp goodness) and it launches in my browser just fine. However when I try to connect to the site locally via dreamweaver, my home page loads as an error: What I see in index.php is an error-page-not-found page, so it’s not loading my home page. But here is the really weird part: When I change the theme through the back end on my browser, Dreamweaver registers the changes in CSS; but it can’t find the home page and doesn’t want to load dynamic files.

It gets weirder: if I connect with mamp pro, I have NO PROBLEM. But my trial runs out in a few days:( And honestly, this should work with the free version.

If anyone has a clue about this, I would really appreciate it. I swear, I am not a newbie. I double and triple checked my server connection. I’m in an intermediate web design class and had my teacher double check my settings, and she is as equally as confounded as I.

My permalinks are set to default, I’ve troubleshooted on the MAMP end and everything is set up correctly there. I’ve tried taking out the 8888 in the local url link and putting it back in again, with no change.

I would really appreciate your feedback and advice!

    Hi rayrozen!

Hope you’re doing good at the moment!

Curious as to why you are using DreamWeaver? I’m going to guess for class? It has been years since I last used DW and a lot has changed since 5.5 as well. Have you taken a look at this video:
    https://youtu.be/MHWdbhQDbQo

It may be able to help troubleshoot a little. I know DW has always been a bit of a weird beast when it comes to local development.

    Hope that helps!

Hi Jose! Thanks for your reply. I did my initial set up following a similar tutorial from adobe:

    https://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2014/01/how-to-set-up-wordpress-in-dreamweaver.html

There really seems to be no real reason why my set up isn’t working. The more I search, the more it seems like people have a ton of difficulty getting wordpress and dreamweaver to play with each other.

I am in fact in a dreamweaver class at college, and this issue boggles my professor as well. I’d love to use my dreamweaver skills to edit wordpress themes, as it has been something I’ve been interested in for years, but so far I’m pretty frustrated! Has anyone out there gotten dreamweaver to play nice with their local wordpress site?

Not many I’ve come across. A lot have just migrated to using basic text editors like Sublime Text or IDEs like PHPStorm.

Makes me wonder why Adobe charges an arm and a leg if they aren’t going to support their software… Anyone else out there in wordpress land have any luck? ??
