Hello,.. I LOVE THIS THEME!! However, after reading the available instructions on how to create a single sidebar on the left, I cannot see anything. I do not want a Global Layout,(yet)simply a sidebar on the Homepage. I chose that under Theme Options/Layout, all others are to the far left (red X)

Now, under “sidebars” boxes at top is “on”,under Home, is home is set at “Primary”, no other areas are selected.

Now, I am lost after adding a new sidebar, how to add, edit, etc.. I tried adding thumbnails with Nextcellent Gallery, adding a sidebar widget it doesn’t work,.. so I’m clueless at this point on what to do.

    Your advice IS appreciated! Thanks

Hi royedw. Welcome to the Hueman forum. Sounds like you have the sidebar options configured correctly. Not sure what this means:

adding a sidebar widget it doesn’t work

Does that mean you added a plugin widget to the Primary sidebar but it’s not generating any output? Is the sidebar itself being displayed? If you can post a link to your site that would help. Thanks.

Thanks BD,.. yes I did try to add a widget and saw that didn’t work. All that has been removed.

A couple of times I saw a blank, gray sidebar but haven’t been able to figure out how to add photos, etc.

In Settings > Reading is your Front Page set to a static page?

    Yes! is that my issue??

Well, I played with it, changed the setting and again tried to set up a left sidebar. No changes. Had I seen the sidebar I’m still not sure how to add photos which is what I’m trying to do.

    Thanks again

Yes. The Theme Options > Layout > Home page refers to the default blog posts page. In the page editor for your home page, below the content, there should be a Page Options section. If not, at the top right click Screen Options, then check Page Options. You can choose the sidebars and page layout for that individual page there. Then, in Appearance > Widgets you need to add whatever widgets you need to the Primary sidebar.

Nope,.. sorry, I cannot get anything to change to show a sidebar. Please know I’m not an experienced coder, CSS or HTML so I’m learning on the fly. This is my 2nd website but 1st with a new theme. Perhaps I’m looking for more detailed “instruction” as in a manual,.. I’ll keep plugging but right now I’m still lost… Thanks

No problem; that’s why this forum exists. There is no “manual” per se. There is some online documentation here: https://hueman.presscustomizr.com/

Let’s walk through what I think your configuraiton should be to display your sidebar.

    1. Theme Options > Layout
    – set the Global Layout to no sidebars
    – set all others to red X which means use the Global Layout
    – Save Changes

    2. Theme Options > Sidebars
    – no selections for Home Primary or Home Secondary
    – Save Changes

    3. Edit your Home page
    – ensure the Page Options are enabled (Screen Options > Page Options)
    – in the Page Options section, below the editor:
    – you can select the sidebar although, if you’re only displaying one, it will default to the Primary sidebar.
    – in the Layout option, select the single sidebar (left or right).
    – Update

    4. Appearance > Widgets
    – if you’re using a plugin to display images, and it provides a widget, drag that widget to the Primary sidebar and configure it.
    – or you can use a text widget and enter the HTML to display the images.
    – Save

Let me know what you get.

    BD,

No luck, cannot get a sidebar to show up at all. I’ve tried a couple different widgets, nothing, but again, I’m not seeing any sidebar at all…

One more time, please check Settings > Reading. Is “Front page displays” set to “A static page”, and under that, “Front page” is set to the page that has a page-id of 86?

    Thread Starter royedw

    (@royedw)

Okay, some progress. The page is set to “static” and the id is 86. I added the YouTube play widget to the Primary sidebar; however, the link is showing at the BOTTOM of the page rather than on the side.

If you look at the page you’ll also see I embedded the video on the page itself, but our YouTube settings are 1080 so the link will be larger when embedding. I did remove the embed & update, but still remains the same.

    Thanks again BD!!

I see the sidebar now, and the video “3rd Sunday in Lent – 2016” widget is displayed at the top of the sidebar. But I don’t see the video embedded on the home page.

    (@royedw)

well I’ll be damned,.. it is there, excellent! I removed the embedded video. Thanks,.. now to get to work, an EXCELLENT theme!!

well,.. riddle me this, after working on the site I’ll look at the home page and the sidebar won’t show. Then I shut down the internet go to the site and the sidebar shows, but when I log-in and edit, log out of the edit function they don’t show.

Also, I’ve checked site which link us and when I click on our URL I don’t see the sidebar. In all cases, if the sidebar doesn’t show the video appear at the bottom of the page… time for a cold beer…

Odd. I just opened your site using the link above and it displayed fine; sidebar with 3 video widgets. Do you have a caching plugin active? Or are you using a CDN?

I’ve checked site which link us

    Which site is this?
