I noticed that the featured image setting in my theme (Avada) is empty using Z-URL Preview. So, when I click on the post, the image is displayed but to show an image in the blog post overview, it doesn’t use the one that Z-URL Preview refers to.

Is there a way to use the Z-URL Preview image automatically as the featured image?

That’s because the preview images are “just” links in the post content and not featured images hosted locally on your system, which is what themes look for.

If the preview is your only post content, there are plugins that will copy, download and attach images. But that would double the work in adding the post.

So I modified the theme I’m using to use the content image instead of featured images. Note that this is very much a “quick fix” that worked for me, it may not be suitable for you if you have a mixture of posts with and without featured images.
