• Timeline:

    – I was connected to Jetpack on my client’s website (hallhighalumni.org) through my personal WordPress.com account.

    – I installed an SLL on hallhighalumni.org.

    – I created & confirmed a WordPress.com account for my client (hallhighalumni).

    – I disconnected Jetpack from hallhighalumni.org so that I could reconnect through my client’s account.

    – Now, when I try to connect, with either account, I get the following error:

Your website needs to be publicly accessible to use Jetpack: site_inaccessible

Error Details: The Jetpack server was unable to communicate with your site [HTTP 406]. Ask your web host if they allow connections from WordPress.com. If you need further assistance, contact Jetpack Support: https://jetpack.me/support/

    – I’ve been on the phone with my webhost (bluehost) for ages. They have confirmed that they don’t block the xmlrpc.php file as was suggested in a related forum topic. They also were incredibly unfamiliar with Jetpack, so it took them about an hour and a half to not be able to help.

    Jetpack Mechanic ??

I’m afraid that’s a known issue with Bluehost at the moment. They use a whitelist of IP ranges from WordPress.com authorized to interact with your site via the XML-RPC file. Unfortunately, that whitelist isn’t up to date anymore.

We’ve let them know about the issue, gave them an updated list of IP ranges, and they’re currently working on fixing the problem.

Until then, I’m afraid there isn’t much you and I can do. I’d suggest forwarding this forum thread to them, just in case it can help them make progress on this. If they have more questions, they can talk to their representative who’s been in touch with us about this. They can also email us and we’ll put them in touch with the right representative at Bluehost.

Sorry not to be of more help.

Thank you so much for the follow-up Jeremy. I’ve never experienced this problem with them before, so I was totally surprised. Will forward on.
