• Just recently (the last week or so?) we have had a number of spam entries through the Participants Database form. We are using CAPTCHA, but it doesn’t seem to be slowing them down. Over ten entries yesterday and I’ve already received some this morning. Thoughts on why we’re seeing an increase in spam and how we can address the issue?

Are you using the latest version of the plugin? You should upgrade if not.

About the spam: you don’t say what your form is for, but you should understand that if filling out your form is valuable to spammers, they will simply hire someone to very cheaply fill out the form. It’s difficult if not impossible to filter out this sort of spam.

If filling out your form, for instance, leads to content being automatically posted, you will be heavily spammed once this is discovered.

Apologies for the lack of detail.

I’m currently on the most recent version of the plugin.

We use the form for folks to sign up to be a volunteer. They fill out the form and it adds them to our database. No content is being posted.

Maybe you could consider to use an authentication plugin to login on WP and redirect to the PDb sign-úp page (i.e. make the PDb sign-up page be private and only accessible for logged-in users)

IT, unfortunately that’s not a good option for us, as we’re wanting to make it easy for volunteers to sign up and requiring them to create a username and log in would be difficult. I welcome any other suggestions though!

I know the spam issue is a pain to deal with…and the captcha included in the plugin is probably something a good spam script could get by. Unless you have the ability to code something stronger, I’m not sure what to suggest.

You may be able to filter the spam submissions in the admin so you can mass-delete them…I know that’s not ideal.
