• Today I was doing some updating of our static WordPress website. The site is very new. I clicked on a preview screen to see changes and all of a sudden a scammy website took over the preview screen. Simultaneously, my anti-virus blocked an intrusion. I scanned my computer and nothing was found. The website appears to be acting normally now. I’m not exactly sure what happened–if the intruder somehow broke into my WordPress editing session and tried to take over the browser. Or was it something to do with my computer? I don’t think I have a browser hijacker on my system as everything was normal before and after this strange occurrence. We have Wordfence installed.

Have you see the issue since?

If it re-appears, remain calm and carefully follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

It has not happened again–at the time that it occurred, 2 attempts were made within a few moments and each time the anti virus intervened. I will read over the security info to see if I can implement the recommended measures. It was disquieting to see this happen right before my eyes.

I agree, though if it were a solid hack, I assume it would appear more than once, very strange.
