    Hi there,

I need to change my permalink structure (currently plain) to show the title, but when I do this, I lose all my social media sharing data that currently shows at the bottom of each post (like how many times that post was shared to Facebook). I understand this is because technically a different url was shared (now that the permalink structure has been changed). How can I change the structure without losing that data?

    That is simply not possible.

The share totals come from Facebook, they aren’t stored or counted on your site.

When you change your URL, Facebook does not make any distinction that it’s a former URL it was already tracking, it simply treats it as a new URL starting for 0. And, when WordPress asks it for the total shares, 0 is exactly what it will send.

If you change the URL or domain in any way, Facebook’s counter will treat is as a new URL and start from 0, there’s no way around it.

Ok thanks. I downloaded a plugin that will let me customize the url; I changed old posts back to the their old url so I won’t lose my social media stats and new posts will follow the new permalink format.
