• Hi,

I have been installing wordpress on my site hosted by godaddy but when i try to run the install.php file, I get the message:

    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

The username and password are correct and I tried replacing ‘localhost’ with the host number given in my control panel, yet I keep getting this message.. any clues?

Cheers, I’d really appreciate any help!

  • I am installing v2.2 and am having the same problem. I talked with my hosting server people and they tell me that the “localhost” is good and to use “my_Database” or “my_wordpress” for the DB name yet neither one works.

    Where to go from here?

    Help.

PS: I built my database thru the cPanel mysql database wizard, then checked it and made sure that it was really there. PHP is so much fun.

    I am installing v2.2..

v2.2 of what are you installing? The latest version of WordPress is 2.3.3.

and to use “my_Database” or “my_wordpress”

those directions are misleading, unless you have 2 databases, one with each name.

If you created the database, surely you know what it’s named, yes? You cant use any old name under the sun.

Since 10 minutes ago I have the same problem. BUT: i didn’t do anything on site site today, 15 minutes ago i looked and now it doesn’t work anymore… Could it be that the server from where I have the site is down or so?
