• Hello,
I did some work on the server a few days ago and changed the permissions. The result was that it messed my site up: everything was gone until I changed the permission back.
I had to resend passwords to all users, re-activate all plugins and all users were deactivated for some reason.
New users are automatically deactivated and I have to activate them manually.
This also means that registered users don’t have passwords. I can activate them, but their passwords don’t work.
They could simply reset their passwords, but I don’t have a e-mail server on my VPS.

    What is the problem here?

  • Hello, flip0x, & welcome to the WordPress support forum.

Was there something occurring that led you to change permissions initially? Did you perchance change file ownership as well?

I changed permissions of the entire wordpress directory in order to (at least try to) fix FTP, because I thought it did not work due to a permission problem.
Since then, I have this wierd problem that all new users have to be accepted fist.

flip0x, what kind of hosting do you have, i.e., shared? virtual? Dedicated?

My Site is hosted on a VPS.
