    Hello everyone,

I’m a bit desperate for help here.

My website (a pro-audio tech blog) running on the latest version of wordpress has gone down. Now when you go to the domain it lands on the “Welcome to the famous five minute WordPress installation process!” page.

[mod: before somebody clicks on it deleting all your existing posts!]

What has happened?! I was not making a post or upgrading wordpress. Everything was fine just a few hours ago when I last checked.

My host is ipower.com. I called tech support but they only reported the problem to a technical advisor the guy could not tell me anything!

    What should I do?

I greatly appreciate any advice. I have worked hard posting on this blog for several months and would hate to loose everything.

Make a very quick backup of the database via phpMyadmin – or an Export (from admin > Manage, if you can log in).
And we will go from there.

Ok… I am working on making the backups now. I will leave a message when I am sure I got everything backed up.

I have now backed up everything.

I opened my FTP and dragged everything to the desktop (this took a while because of the 5 months of content). I also followed the instructions on how to backup WordPress using phpMyadmin and saved 2 files to my desktop from that web interface via vDeck. One with Data and one without Data.

Any ideas on what I should do next?

Should I wait the 24 hours for my host provider to MAYBE get back to me?

    Thanks again for any help!

Your site seems fine in FF and IE7.

    Hey!!! It’s back online!!!

Whew… thanks to everyone who responded so quickly. I panicked a little of course. Even though I knew I had the files backed up I was worried I was in for hours of fixing things.

I guess my host provider did something…

Im glad knowing your all here when something goes wrong.

Just a reminder fro the future: the WP files (that ones you saved via FTP) are always replaceable – except the uploaded the material… although you should have those, too, on your machine.
You always want to backup first and above all the DATA from your database! That’s where all your content is: posts, Pages, comments, settings.

Thanks Moshu. Normally when I upgrade WordPress to the latest version I follow the backup instructions for myphpadmin.

I wish there was a more user friendly way built into wordpress for making a backup and upgrading to the new versions.

That said, each time I do it it gets easier.

    ??

I am now experiencing the exact same problem with my site offline and the same message when I try to log on to my Admin. Control Panel. “Welcome to the famous five minute WordPress installation process!” The site worked one minute then gone the next. I am running the latest version of WP. I’ve called my web host and reported the trouble. After an hour and a half the engineer is convinced that it is on this end. I’ve back up my site to my desktop. Any ideas what may be causing this? Thanks so much!
