    Sorry for the redundant post – all of the references to this issue are several years old and I’m hoping this issue is resolved in 4.4.1…

    When a user clicks on a category in the sidebar, I simply want to show a list of post titles (no author, date, etc.).

    Seems like a feature that would be enabled in settings…

    The only workarounds that I’ve seen entail modifying the category.php in the relevant wp-content/<theme name> directory…

    Is this still the only way to implement this option?

    Is there a plugin that implements this?

    Thanks!!

    yes, that is how it is done (in a child theme).

    Michael

    Thanks. I am surprised this isn’t simply a setting – this is such a basic requirement (in fact, I would have assumed it was the default).

    I started with Elegant Themes The Professional, which has neither a category.php or an archive.php in the root (theme) directory.

    Any suggestions where I might find the relevant php code…?

    Thanks again…

    no suggestion for any Elegant Themes as those are commercial themes;
    you will need to ask the developers of the corresponding theme directly;

    Actually, I have a better idea.

    I’ve added <!–more–> after a brief abstract in the first row of the post. This enables use of images, sliders and a brief executive summary, which is a lot more flexible than a simple post title…
