Show content for specific users

I will ask this is simple terms and let me know where to expand.
I have 3 groups of users. I need to be able to create an unlimited amount of users under each group. As well as only show certain content to each group on the front end. There would be some overlap of content where some types of content would be accessible to more than one group.
Is this the right plugin? Or is this not what the plugin is intended for? If not do you have any suggestions on a plugin. Thank you so much!
