• Hi, tonight my site was hacked into and the only thing I did was use the wordpress auto install plug-in a day ago to install the lastest version of wordpress 2.33. I am calling my hosting company but is wordpress auto update plug-in the problem? Or is this a wordpress security breach problem? This is fustrating. Any info or insight into how to help secure my site is appreciated it. Thanks.

  • looking at the source of your site in google’s cache, i see that you had wp-tables installed.

That plugin, if you had not recently upgraded it, had a well publicized vulnerability in it.

Just so you can check it and see, it was versions 1.43 and lower of wp-tables.

Ok, I’ll delete it and thanks for your quick reply. Appreciate it.

you havent indicated whether or not you were running that version of the plugin. I’ll take it you are/were?

I’m just deleting right now because my site is down. My host says that he can’t find anything externally – as far as the hacking goes and suggested that it might be wordpress. I don’t know what version on the wordpress table plug-in I had, but I am deleting what I can right now to restore my site. Any other ideas, would appreciate it.

My other idea would have been to have opened the plugin in a text editor so that you the you could find out what version you were using.

Restoring your site is wonderful, but knowing what the problem was ..(would be more important to me)

    But then, thats me.
