Hi – I just installed WordPress on a new site via Softaculous and many things are not working, including:

    • When I try to add a new theme, the “upload theme” button doesn’t do anything.
    • When I upload a theme via FTP, navigating to Appearance > Themes to activate the new theme takes me to Appearance > Customize.
    • The Plugin menu takes me to what looks like my site’s 404 error page. So does Dashboard > Updates.

Anyone have any idea what could be going on here? I am confused!

Sounds like something is wrong with that installer. Unfortunately, we don’t have any control over third-party installers.

Would you be able to delete that installation, then try a manual installation?

Hi James – thank you for your help. I tried the manual install but now it’s giving me an error message when I try to load the install page. It says “This webpage has a redirect loop. ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS”

I think I followed the instructions correctly but I am not very experienced dealing with the backend of websites. Any idea what could be going on here?

What’s the URL of the site?

    stiltandblue.com

    thank you.

    Wow … that’s … something. 0_0

So, according to https://web-sniffer.net/ the domain stiltandblue.com is issuing a 302 temporary redirect to the installer, which is what it’s supposed to do. You haven’t installed yet, so it brings up the installer.

But then, according to the above the installer is temporarily redirected to the installer which is temporarily redirected to the installer and so on, infinite loop, yay!

I’d recommend just deleting everything, the files and the database, then try a manual install one more time.

If that doesn’t nothing, you’re definitely going to have to bring your hosting provider in on this.

    0_0 indeed!

Thanks for investigating. I chatted with my hosting provider and they were able to fix the problem. Something involving PHP and the .htaccess file. Whatever it was, things appear to be working now.
