    Background:

I’ve just upgraded my installation of WordPress from 3.7 (I think!) to 4.4.1. Prior to upgrade, everything was working fine.

    Problem:

Since upgrade I can successfully publish/save as draft any short post, but any post over approximately 420 words fails to save, and instead of refreshing the page, loads the main admin listing page (ie wp-admin/edit.php).

If I try to edit an existing post (my posts are 800-100 words on average) the same thing happens.

I disabled all plug-ins (and tried with a clean install, see below) and reverted to standard theme. no joy.

Clearing browser cache and trying on different PCs has no effect. (Tested using Chrome and Firefox from work and home.)

There aren’t any error messages on the page. No errors in the wordpress log (assuming it’s writing to it, have enabled debugging in config). No errors in Apache log.

    Additional:

As a test, I created a brand new instance of wordpress 4.4.1 with a new database but all on the same server (I’ve only access to one!). Exactly the same thing happens.

    Help!

As this was working fine before, is there something significantly different in the way larger posts are saved in 4.4 compared to how things worked around 3.7?

Update: tried again today and it seems I can’t save as draft/publish at all now. However I can comment on posts, so it’s not a writing-to-database issue. Also spoken to admin and reliably informed that db/server is not running out of space etc.

I’ve also noticed that the “WordPress News” widget is showing an error ” RSS Error: WP HTTP Error: There are no HTTP transports available which can complete the requested request.” No idea if this worked before and not unduly concerned about it working now, but thought it’s probably worth mentioning it in case it’s relevant.

  • I am seeing this issue as well after upgrading. Any luck yet? All my plugins are up-to-date as well! I’ve even tried disabling them and re-enabling them one at a time. Also restore backups and recreated this issue over and over. I upgraded from version 4.2.5 to 4.4.1.

Pretty much nothing worked for me, so I threw myself on the mercy of the server admin guy.

I’m not sure what he did… apparently he auto-updated SuSE, installed all updates and rebooted the server.

Magically this resolved all my issues, but you know admins, who knows what else he might have had a fiddle with.

But the bottom line, which may or may not be good news for you, is that it was something server-side that needed changing.
