• Hi People,

I’m designing a site for a musician, who wants to offer free downloadable copies of his MP3’s. He’s got a number of albums out, so we’re looking at displaying info, preview players and download links for each clip.

On our testing page, we have about 25 songs listed, each with its own audio player (WP default player) and download links.

My web client visited this page on his mobile phone and freaked out because it pushed his mobile bandwidth allowance way over his monthly limit.

My questions: why would this happen? Are MP3 files that are coded into the WP audio player automatically “pre-downloaded” by the page before anyone clicks “play”…? that might explain a huge bandwidth hit. If this is indeed the case, is there any coding that might be a workaround?

If it’s not a case of audio being “pre-downloaded” by the visitor’s browser, any ideas on what might have happened?

(unfortunately, i can’t give out the URL because it’s not public yet)

    thanks for any pointers!
