• Hi
we have been using WordPress for many years to publish 10+ different blogs that we use in our business. In the last (approx) six weeks we have noticed a problem that has arisen on a number of the blogs when we look at them using the Chrome browser. The problem does not appear in Safari or in Firefox. The blogs that the problem occurs on are the ones that are updated daily.
    You can view one of the blogs at this address;
    https://www.rovolunteers.com/cambodia-village-immersion-blog/
When we open the blog using Safari we can view all images. When we open it using Chrome we only see a small tile with the file name of the image. I can post a screen shot if necessary but you should be able to see it by visiting the blog using Chrome.
We have disabled all extensions for Chrome including Adblocker. We have emptied the cache and purged all viewing history etc. Nothing changes.
We have tried it on a number of computers in various locations and still we get the same result.
Not sure if this is relevant but we are predominately a Mac office.
Any ideas on why this has recently occurred and how we might resolve the issue would be most appreciated.

  • I’m not seeing any issues viewing you’re website on my Chrome browser on my desktop.

Have you tried clearing cache/cookies on Chrome?

    Hi David

yes I have cleared cache/cookies on Chrome. Sorry I have to go out for an hour or so but will be back soon with a fuller response.

Sure thing, does this occur on every Mac you have possibly? I’m viewing this off my Android phone and Windows desktop with no issue.

    @david

It seems like Chrome on Mac uses a different Chromium base or package, i saw these issues sometimes. A bit like Safari closes Flash for example,

    Hi

back again. Yes, we have six Mac’s in the office and three Mac Book Airs used outside the office. All experience the problem.

I use Chrome on an Android phone and there is no problem with the images. It is looking like it is related to Chrome on a Mac.

MM, can you use these videos without Flash? Or re-enconde them to mp4?

Like I suspected, they are all encoded in flash so.. apple doesn’t like them since they have an argument – Apple discontinued adobe flash support a while ago, as well as Google Android.

It’s supposed now to be in native MP4 or Apple Video Format, not an expert with Apple but yes, was the issue.

That being said, if you have source video files, you can just re-encode them to a format like MP4 or so for local use, then repuload to YouTube, it uses and prefers MP4 now with HTML5 for better encoding and also, no license issues.

Tell me about outcome please, even if not an apple user this interests me,

    Hi
it is the photos that we are posting that are the problem. Almost all of them are JPG images. Generally the blogs do not have videos on them so I don’t know how it handles videos.

No, jpeg has fallen in public domain for years now (unless jpg2k, a format almost no one uses). Apart from that, no IP issues possible with standard jpg and it diplays well on any x86 stuff or OS.

    Hi

the images that are not appearing are images that are taken every day and posted that day. They are generally taken on mobile phones both iPhones and Android phones. I have checked the site and the images are predominately JPG and PNG. Neither type of image appears on the Chrome browser but it does appear correctly on the Apple Safari browser.

    I’m checking files rights now,
It’s awesome your network can’t read it,

I meant odd, not awesome, sorry.
I try to guess an idea, but no idea now.

    *idea*

You may try betas for apple, it may help troubleshoot if you can’t see vids or pictures not working:

    https://download-chromium.appspot.com/?platform=Mac&type=snapshots

About videos, another issue but do you have a firewall preventing a given type of data type by port? (on UDP/TCP)? Or recently added a new server-side software firewall?

Will try the Chromium download and see if we have issue there. Thanks for that. As to the firewall preventing a given type of data type by port, this is beyond our ability.

Well, this Chromium download is supposed to be test on one computer only, to see if it can work and hijack Safari chromium own version.

As for it, it’s a safe code, no worries it’s a worker of chromium (open-source).

Finally, i might be wrong, but it seems your internal firewall is blocking it really in fact or a given set of ports.
At least that’s my little 2 cents, it’s highly possible i’m wrong, but a dozen of computers are not bugging so much.

When you go outside with a macbook air or so in town, do you still encounter this video problem or so?

Hope it helps, keep me posted please,
