• Following some advice about WordPress security, I added “Options -Index” to my .htaccess file. Now when I try to open the Dashboard I get the message “You cannot access this file directly.”

I have removed the .htaccess file, cleared the cache in Firefox, even reuploaded the entire contents of the /wp-admin folder. All the other tabs within WordPress still work–just not the Dashboard.

Now, one other blog that I use as a test platform and have not yet upgraded to 2.3.2 is still working perfectly.

    What would you suggest?

  • So after you sign in to wp-admin you cannot get to the Dashboard?

Yes. Logged in as Admin, I could not get to the Dashboard.

However, all of a sudden the problem resolved itself. I have no idea why, or what caused it in the first place. Suggestions welcome.

Help! It’s started again. As of today (2/5) I cannot access the Dashboard. I’m getting the same message:
Warning: You cannot access this file directly!

What is causing this and what can I do to fix it? I’m sure as heck not going to try updating as long as this is going on.

Update: It appears that the problem is being caused by the way the blog redirects to the Dashboard tab. If I go directly to the Dashboard via my bookmark, it works perfectly. But if I try to click on the Dashboard tab from somewhere within WordPress, the redirect link is incorrect and thus leads to the error message.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix the link?

im not sure why you are cross posting between threads, infmom; I answered the original problem in the other thread.

Sorry. Didn’t see your answer before I updated my original post. Thank you for the information.
