WordPress user login timeout

BridgeDD synchronizes logins/logouts, which is one of the basic reasons people want a bridge. Your login timeout WordPress plugin will not work with BridgeDD unless you obtained/wrote a companion login timeout MOD for phpBB.

Yes. I thought that was the case.
I think I was hoping that if I changed the WordPress timeout to a value that when the WP login expired the phpBB login would as well.

So, just to be clear, I am no longer able to set the WP login timeout any more if I am using the BridgeDD plugin. Is that correct?

I guess you were clear. I just wanted you to see the problem that it causes.
As a WordPress programmer I cannot see why you have had to do that.
You also do not make it clear that your plugin does this which is incredibly remiss.
I believe that your plugin should respect the login timeout and log the user out of phpBB also.

You can certainly consider the synchronized logins a bug; that’s your choice. And you would be the first to think of it as anything but a great feature. Every bit of feedback I’ve received about the way BridgeDD handles synchronized logins has been extremely positive. In fact it’s where I’ve received the most compliments. It’s safe to say I will not be changing this part of BridgeDD at any time in the future.

Also understand that the vast majority of people using BridgeDD are disabling logins/registrations in WordPress since the process in phpBB is much more secure and has built-in anti-spambot support.

Having said the above, you have given me an idea for a BridgeDD feature enhancement. Right now phpBB has a minimum limit of one day on its persistent cookies. If I reduce that to one hour, BridgeDD could control login timeouts in WordPress to as little as one hour. That would eliminate the need for a login timeout plugin in WordPress.

Having said all this, BridgeDD gives other plugins access to several parts of phpBB. A login timeout plugin could check whether BridgeDD was loaded, and if so, it could use built-in BridgeDD functions to read the phpBB login cookies, then reset them to whatever length of time it wanted.
