mt redirect

I got my site converted over to WordPress with only a minimum of swearing. What I’m having trouble with is the redirect template by Alex King for the old mt entries.
I used the 301 template, and rebuilt my mt files, but ended up with the redirect taking the file to:
https://www.acrosstheatlantic.com/WordPress/2004/07/04/announcement/#001779
When it should be going to:
https://acrosstheatlantic.com/WordPress/index.php/2004/07/04/announcement/
How do I get the post number stripped off the mt output?
