• I get this message; Error establishing a database connection This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at mysql. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

I don’t know what any of this means because I haven’t changed anything.

    Now, I get this;

    Couldn’t write to: /blog/wp-content/cache/wp-cache-ad48484e5380850711d84778126f5d8f.html

Was your site running OK before?
If yes check the config file to see if it has been corrupted. Also check to see if the database server is down by connecting to it using phpMyAdmin.

I’m sorry, I don’t understand what you’re saying. Yes, it was working fine before – other than that you’re speaking Chinese.

    jlilyea,

Take a breath, and Look at that error. Then think about the plugins that you are using.

    Theyre right here:

    https://thisainthell.us/blog/wp-content/plugins/

Do you see any plugins listed there that might look theyre related to that error?

    Why yes!

    wp-cache ??

I dont know exactly how wp-cache works, Im sure others do however, but I can make an educated guess that it doesnt have the necessary permissions to write the cache file to the directory its trying to write to. Thats exactly what that error says, after all.

So you doublecheck and fix (if necessary) the permissions on your wp-content/wp-cache dorectory to start with.

I’m sorry, but all the breaths in the world aren’t going to help me understand what you’re saying.

The thing has been working fine for more than a year and it stopped working last night without me doing anything to it. So how do I fix it? That’s all I’m asking.

I don’t know what a wp-content/wp-cache directory is, what it does or how to fix it.

is this not a blog that you installed?

did you not upload ans activate the wp-cache plugin??

If you uploaded the plugin wp-cache, then you do know what a wp-content/ directory is, since in order to install that plugin the files had to be placed inside wp-content/plugins/.

Yeah, well, this isn’t helpful. I don’t remember how I set the blog up over a year-and-a-half ago.

Yeah, well, this isn’t helpful. I don’t remember how I set the blog up over a year-and-a-half ago.

you used an ftp client, you uploaded the files .. I can SEE in the link to your plugins that there are plugins there that have been installed as recently as last December. Thats not a year ago.

IF you want help you have to do some work, unless you want someone else to do it for you.

Use your ftp client, and start by changing the permissions on your wp-content/wp-cache directory. Try 777, see what that does.

Read this, if you need any more explanation of what I just said.

Furthermore, if you dont like that solution, disable the wp-cache plugin. As I already identified to you that THAT is whats causing the error you are seeing, that would have been the common-sense answer to me. If, in fact, I had no clue what else to do.

lastly, I will do this for you but in the spirit of capitalism, I charge, and so you know, I’m a Liberal that doesnt like being called a Socialist.

    (@jlilyea)

Well, I guess, I’ll have to wait until I get home tonight to fix it. Thanks.

Liberals should not like being called socialists.:-)

OK, I’ve done done my best and it’s still Chinese and the blog doesn’t work. I’ve reached the point that I’ll pay to get the darn thing working.

    (@jlilyea)
