• When I first upgraded to 4.4 it got as far updating the database then instead of going to the WP page I got a message from Maintenance Mode and was locked out of the site until the (default) time ended.

In any case, the update works just fine but I got a message in Admin that the update hadn’t finished and I should do it again and lo and behold it did exactly thing except I never made to upgrading the DB.

I tried a couple more times and got the same result and I still get the same message in Admin:

‘An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.’

Not sure what to do about it until another update comes along.

    – Try MANUALLY updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first.
Backup: If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.
