  • Who do you host with? Have you made any theme changes or plugin updates or database changes recently?

    I host with godaddy.

As far as I know there have not been any updates. How can I check on that? Would I get an email alerting me that there was an update?

I can do a search on my email account if so. Not sure who the sender would be?

I have not made any changes.

    Hi,

It would appear you have what is commonly known as a White Screen of Death (or WSOD, which doesn’t sound so devestating).

This is commonly caused by a theme or, more commonly, a plugin conflict.

Normally I would recommend you disable any plugins by using your file system access, but I also know that if you are using GoDaddys WordPress hosting this is not available to you and you will have to open a ticket with them.

If you are on a self-managed plan with them, using a file manager, or your favorite FTP (or equivilant) client and changing the name of the folder wp-content/plugins to something like wp-content/plugins.old should hopefully get you back into your site to begin with, then I’d check which plugins you have and see if any of them have any known conflicts.

Ok, thanks so much, I’ll try that and get back to you!

I took a screen shot of the plug-ns that were in the folder. It seems Askimet updated to Askimet3…that might be the culprit. I’m not even sure what that plug-in is for. Any experience with that?

Akismet is bundled with WordPress, and is most likely not the culprit (unless it’s actually named akismet3 in the folder, which is definitely an unknown)

    Yes, it’s actually named Askimet3.

I renamed the plug-ins folder plugins.old and still have nothing. Does it take a while for the change to upload?

I can send a screen shot of what’s in the folders on the ftp if that would help. I don’t see a place to do it here, email?

    Hi,

If renaming the plugins folder didn’t help, could you see if there’s any errors in your log files (the location of these may vary depending on what host you use, but if they have a control panel there’s usually a dedicated button for showing error logs).

Unfortunately we don’t give out emails here, as we prefer to keep the volunteer support to the forums, and you wouldn’t like my going rate ??
